rain

down on the day

a river of many

plenty a public desperate for group

to pick two, a business man dashing with briefcase and suit

an ironic mustache

a hipster

donning two differently colored boots

an audible laugh

not to make fun, but the difference between the two being none

the desire to distinguish leads more to the same

as the business man and the hipster prepare to board the train

A busy flurry of umbrellas and coats as the two men proceed, like eddies and currents and ripples in a stream

last call to board at the crowded affair

as the doors squeeze closed, the two men,

hipster and suit

pressed chest to chest

may do nothing but stare

a concurrent smile and nod, thinking

“I will never be like you”

as they move off together down a river I once knew
